Sacramental Programme
OUR PARISH
We are part of St.Patrick & St. Malachy’s Parish. Therefore, there are three schools within our parish: St. Patrick’s, St. Edmund’s & St. Malachy’s.
The schools sometimes join together to celebrate Sacramental occasions such as ‘First Forgiveness’.
The relationship between the three schools as a Parish is forever growing.
Sacramental Programme
The Sacramental Programme is facilitated by a team of Catechists from the school. We are looking to strengthen our team and would welcome any parents or parishioners who would like to join us!
The Sacramental programme consists of a series of meetings and celebrations for parents and their children (Year 3 or older in some cases) in preparation for receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
The Sacramental Programme is the means by which baptised children can make their own personal commitment to God and continue on their spiritual journeys. complete their journey into full membership of the Catholic Church. Baptism is the first of three Sacraments of Initiation. The programme begins with the children presenting themselves to God and the parish to say that they are now choosing to continue on their sacramental journey. At the sacrament of Baptism, parents/guardians made the decision for them and now it is up to them. The children then go on to receive the sacrament of 'First Forgiveness' and they later receive first Holy Communion – a public declaration that they are now fully a part of this community, this “Communion” of God’s family.
The programme itself strives to help them grow into this community, and feel a real sense of belonging to the wider Family of God.
The Sacramental Programme runs in parallel with the Year Three RE Syllabus in Catholic schools of the Salford Diocese. Whilst most of the children who attend our programme will be in Year Three at St. Edmund’s we do also welcome children from different schools who live in this parish, and we will adapt the programme to the needs of older children.
A Crèche facility is available for all the meetings after school.
Please see either Mrs Kennedy (Sacramental Programme Leader), Mrs Crowther or Mrs Clinton if you have any questions about the Sacramental Programme.
MODULES
All children are to complete 3 parts of their Faith journey. All of these modules focus on the Sacraments of which your child will be receiving. Catechists meetings are held in school after school hours for the pupils and the parents involved in the Sacramental programme. Children work in booklets and have discussions with their Catechist whilst, Mrs Clinton & Mrs Betney meet with the parents who also discuss and share ways of supporting our children as they embark upon their journey to become ‘fuller’ members of the Catholic church. Each meeting is followed by a celebration Mass at Church usually on the following Sunday parish Mass.
