Catholic Celebrations

The Crowning of Our Lady

We hold a special Mass to celebrate the Crowning of Our Lady during which we hold a procession in from the school playground. The children carry flowers into Mass and then place these at the statue of Our Lady, which is in front of the altar.

Two children from Reception are chosen to be the bearers and they carry the crown down to the altar before crowning the statue of Our Lady.

Easter at Saint Edmund's

At Saint Edmund's we celebrate Easter by inviting families in for the morning to make Easter gardens with their child within a small group in the classrooms.

Children from FSU up to Year 6 are involved in making Easter gardens within small friendship groups.

We differentiate the gardens so that the children can show their knowledge of the story of Holy week leading up to Easter. In the afternoon the classes are then paired up in order to under take a peer assessment.

  • Year 6 assess children independently and within groups throughout the whole school.
  • Year 4 assess Year 1 children.
  • Year 5 assess year 2 children.
  • Year 6 assess by Year 3 pupils.

Also when we celebrate Holy week the Key Stage 2 classes bring the stories of Holy week to life and invite the whole school community in to hear them.

  • Year 3 start the week by acting out Palm Sunday.
  • Year 4 act out the celebration of The Last Supper.
  • Year 6 act out the celebration of Good Friday.
  • Year 5 act out the celebration of The Resurrection.

St. Edmund's Feast Day

On St. Edmund's Feast Day pupils, staff and parishioners celebrate by coming together at lunchtime to have a whole school party lunch. Then in the afternoon the children are usually treated to a Pantomime.

St. George’s Day

Each year we celebrate St. George’s Day by dressing in red and white. In the morning we do fun activities in class learning about the history of the day. Then our lunch is usually a traditional English Fare. In the afternoon our children go in to the playground to play traditional games such as: sack races, hockey, darts and hop scotch.
