Termly Assessments

Your child academic progress will be assessed during 'Assessment Week' which takes place during week 10, 20 and 30 of the school calendar.

They will be assessed for Reading, Writing and Numeracy as well as phonics.

Following these assessments you are encouraged to make an appointment with your child's classteacher to discuss their progress. The results of the SATs after week 30 will be disucssed at Parents evening in July.

Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) in Year 2

SATs take place in Year 2 during the Summer term. All children in their final year of Key Stage 1must be assessed. Each child is teacher assessed in reading, writing (including spelling and handwriting), maths (including number, shape, space and measurement) and science.

Not all children take the tests since they may not be suitable forms of assessment for some children. Teachers enter children for tests and tasks according to their knowledge of the children`s abilities.

If the children are not taking part in tests, the tasks support teachers` judgements about the children`s attainment.

At the end of the SAT`s, teachers report both the task and test results and teacher assessments for the core subjects to the local authority. Core subjects are English, Mathematics and Science. There is not a test or task for Science.

Please do not worry about these test, we are constantly working toward these through our lessons and the children often enjoy completing the papers. We make it fun for them so that they are not worried or scared about sitting the tests.

A Year 2 SAT meeting will be held at the end of Spring 2 term but should you have any questions or concerns please make an appointment to discuss these with the Year 2 class teacher.
